This year’s Tall Ships Race visits the west coast of NorwayTall Ships Race 2008
Tall ships used for sail training take part in this annual race held in European waters. This year’s route is from Liverpool in the UK to Den Helder in the Netherlands via Måløy and Bergen on the west coast of Norway. The event is organised by Sail Training International, an association of 21 national organisations devoted to “the education and development of young people of all nationalities, religions and social backgrounds through sail training”. The Børøysund was built 100 years ago this yearD/S Børøysund
Berthed below Akershus fortress on Oslo’s waterfront lies D/S Børøysund, an old steam ship previously used as a passenger ferry in western and northern Norway. The vessel is now owned by the Norwegian Veteran Ship Club and is a valued part of the nation’s maritime heritage. Nautisk Forlag contributes to its upkeep. ‘The most environmentally-friendly ship in the world’M/S Miljødronningen (The Environmental Queen)
The catamaran ‘Environmental Queen’ has been called the most environmentally friendly ship in the world. Commissioned by the environmental organisation ‘Green Warriors of Norway’ it is the largest investment made by any Norwegian environmental organisation. The ship is of the Flying Cat 35 type, 33.9 meters long, 10.4 meters broad and can carry up to 50 passengers. It has a helicopter platform and is ice strengthened for climate research operations in the northern areas of the Barents Sea, Spitzbergen Islands and North Sea. In addition to conferences and environmental surveillance, M/S Miljødronningen is a floating showcase for alternative materials and fuels. Nautisk Forlag is proud to be one of its ongoing sponsors.


Built in Germany during 1914 the vessel was purchased in 1923 by the Norwegian Ship Owners’ Association and renamed Statsraad LehmkuhlStatsraad Lehmkuhl and Christian Radich
Statsraad Lehmkuhl and Christian Radich are established icons in Norway’s sailing milieu. These full-riggers are known for their participation in regattas and film recordings, but mostly act as training ships for eager pupils from around the world. Nautisk Forlag is proud to be one of their ongoing sponsors.
